Youth & Community

Building networks and supporting community through engaging youth programs
Youth and Community projects cater to a youth demographic traditionally underrepresented at the Arts Centre including marginalized and culturally diverse youth. Youth music programs focus on the development of an arts practice in youth aged 13-23, through mentoring, providing of access to resources and guidance from established artists.
Throughout 2009, Education at the Arts Centre has collectively worked with Footscray Community Arts Centre to help deliver an expanded holiday program to include music and multimedia. Through the weekly hip-hop mentorship program Dig Deep, the Arts Centre has forged vital links with North Richmond Community Health Multicultural Arts Victoria and The Push to continue to provide opportunities for creative development for youth in the areas of music production and performance.
"Dig Deep offers grass roots programs like ours the opportunity to collaborate with a flagship cultural institution. By offering young people from emerging and established migrant communities the opportunity to create original work in a professional studio setting, Dig Deep is cultural democracy in action".
