School lunches may be eaten on the lawn area between the Theatres Building and Hamer Hall or in the Queen Victoria Gardens opposite the Arts Centre. In case of rain students may eat lunches in the theatre foyers (subject to available space and performance schedules).

Hot & cold drinks, cakes, biscuits and savoury snacks are available from Cento Espresso on the forecourt of the Theatres Building while more substantial food options are available inside at Café Vic, open from 10.30am. Food courts and restaurant options are only minutes away at Southbank on the Yarra River.

There are toilet facilities in every foyer of the Arts Centre.

School Bags & Lunch Boxes
For the safety and comfort of all visitors, school bags are not permitted inside the theatres. And as the Arts Centre’s cloak room is generally open in the evenings, we discourage groups from bringing school bags to daytime Education Programs and Performances. However if it is necessary for your group to bring bags they will be accommodated.

School lunches may also be stored in the theatre foyers during performance times.

While You Are Here

There are plenty of opportunities to augment your visit to the Arts Centre:

Our Gallery Spaces, with free exhibitions as varied as the history of circus, art inspired by jazz, and the hit Kylie exhibition, are open every day until late.

Guided Tours take you through the foyers and into the auditoriums (where available) and explain the history, design and function of the buildings, as well as explaining the significance of the artwork that fills the walls of our foyers. For more information please click here.

The Arts Centre sits within the heart of Melbourne’s Cultural Precinct and sites such as NGV, ACMI, State Library of Victoria and Melbourne Museum are in close proximity.
