 | WELCOME TO TERM 4 AT THE ARTS CENTRE |
Dear Teachers, Program Partners & friends of the Arts Centre
Welcome to the final big edition of edNews from the Arts Centre in 2008. It’s been a busy, thrilling year of performances, workshops, music technology and multimedia programs, our new VET offering, a pilot Special Needs Access Program and much, much more. We have also increased our incredibly passionate staff by 6 to a total of 17, to significantly enhance the Arts Centre’s capacity to deliver even more special projects and programs for metropolitan and regional schools in 2009.
The Manager for Education, Families & Young People, Robin Penty, recently returned from Beijing, where she and Philip Norman, Program Manager Education & Families Performances, spent an intensive week with the China Children’s National Theatre. They were there to have a sneak peek at the delightful Dragon Child production, an extraordinary Australian-Chinese co-production which was developed with support from the Arts Centre’s very own Creative Development team. Hopefully we will be able to bring this wonderful new theatre performance over to Australia in 2009/10. We’ll keep you posted!
Meanwhile, the SoundHouse studio is being worked hard this spring… VET students are exploring the techniques of multitrack audio and MIDI recording, learning how to setup and pack down a recording space, as well as developing new skills in studio recording management and the technical aspects of using mixing desks, recording equipment and digital audio workstations. Students from Mansfield Music Makers also left the SoundHouse recently after an exciting afternoon of recording on trumpet or flute. They recorded a 27 track CD, a solo from each student, plus group songs recorded to backing tracks, with the help of the SoundHouse Ed team.
And only fourteen more sleeps to Chookahs! Primary students from around the state are gearing up for a rollicking good time at this year’s Chookahs! Festival, with a focus on circus and some of the best circus companies in the country all under the Arts Centre’s big top in October. There are a few seats still available (see Spotlight), so book now if you don’t want to miss out!
All the best for a successful fourth term… The team from Education@the Arts Centre For all Education events and courses visit www.theartscentre.com.au/education |
