2010 Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Season at the Arts Centre

With a reputation for excellence, versatility and innovation the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO) is Australia’s internationally-acclaimed and oldest orchestra, founded in 1906. Following integration with the Melbourne Chorale in 2008, the Orchestra now has its own choir – the MSO Chorus.
In 2010 the MSO presents a superb season, bringing some of the world’s great artists to Melbourne for an exciting season showcasing masterworks of four centuries.
Notable guest artists include conductors Charles Dutoit, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Mark Wigglesworth, Mario Venzago and Andrew Litton. Guest soloists include pianists Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Olli Mustonen and Garrick Ohlsson, violinists Nigel Kennedy, James Ehnes, Daniel Hope, trumpeter Alison Balsom, cellist Li-Wei, mezzo-soprano Christianne Stotijn, tenor Steve Davislim, baritone Timothy Robinson and guitarist Slava Grigoryan. The Orchestra presents a rich range of repertoire to please every taste by composers such as Bach, Britten, Schumann, Mozart, Beethoven, Elgar, Rimsky Korsakov, Vivaldi, Rachmaninov, Shostakovich, Sibelius, Adams, Kats-Chernin and Turnage.

Note: The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra wishes to advise that the upcoming Burt Bacharach performances at the Arts Centre, Hamer Hall on 11, 12 and 13 March have been postponed for medical reasons. The legendary hit-maker is recuperating from recent back surgery in Los Angeles with an excellent prognosis and will return to Australia in November 2010.
The concert date for Mr Bacharach's highly anticipated Australian tour with his band and the performance with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra is rescheduled for Saturday 20 November 2010 at 8pm at the Melbourne Convention Centre.
Ticket Holders will be contacted shortly and provided with the full details on the rescheduled performances.
